Definition

TexasSure refers to the state of Texas electronic insurance verification program, jointly administered by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, the Texas Department of Insurance, and the Department of Public Safety. TexasSure maintains a database that cross-references every registered Texas vehicle against active insurance policies reported by carriers. Law enforcement, toll authorities, and motor vehicle officials access TexasSure to verify whether a vehicle carries the 30/60/25 minimum liability coverage required by Texas Transportation Code §601.072. If a vehicle is flagged as uninsured, the Texas DMV may issue a notice requiring proof of coverage, which if ignored can lead to registration hold, license suspension, and vehicle impoundment. Because TexasSure is electronic, even short lapses in coverage can trigger enforcement action. Carriers report new policies, cancellations, and renewals to TexasSure weekly, so a new policy can take about three weeks to appear — carry your insurance ID card as proof, and keep continuous coverage to avoid system flags.
