Penalties for Driving Uninsured (Spanish: Multas por Manejar Sin Aseguranza)
Spanish: Multas por Manejar Sin Aseguranza en Texas
Definition
Penalties for Driving Uninsured in Texas are codified in Texas Transportation Code §601.191. First offense: $175-$350 fine plus state surcharges. Repeat offenses: up to $1,000 fine, license suspension up to 2 years, vehicle impoundment, and an SR-22 financial responsibility filing requirement. Causing an at-fault accident while uninsured exposes the driver to personal liability for medical bills and property damage that insurance would otherwise cover.
