Texas Transportation Code Chapter 601 is the Texas state statute that establishes the financial responsibility law for all motor vehicle operators. Section 601.072 sets the minimum liability limits at 30/60/25. Section 601.052 lists the methods to satisfy financial responsibility (insurance, surety bond, deposit, self-insurance certificate). Section 601.191 sets penalties for driving uninsured: $175-$350 first offense, up to $1,000 repeat, plus license suspension and SR-22 requirement.
