Definition
ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) is a 9-digit IRS-issued tax ID used by individuals who do not qualify for a Social Security Number. Many Texas non-standard auto carriers accept ITIN as an alternative identifier when issuing auto insurance, alongside a Matrícula Consular and foreign driver's license. ITIN is not a work permit and does not establish immigration status — it is purely a tax-administration identifier.
