Rental Reimbursement

Spanish: Reembolso de Auto de Alquiler

Definition

Rental Reimbursement refers to an optional Texas auto insurance coverage that pays for a rental car while the insured's vehicle is in a repair shop after a covered claim — typically a collision, comprehensive, or liability event. Coverage is expressed as a daily allowance paired with a maximum cap, such as $30 per day up to $900 total, or $50 per day up to $1,500 total. Rental reimbursement does not cover rentals for routine maintenance or non-covered events; the repair must stem from an accident paid under the policy. In Dallas-Fort Worth, where body shops often run 7–14 days behind, rental coverage frequently pays for itself after a single claim. Rental reimbursement is commonly bundled with full coverage policies at modest cost — usually $5–$15 per month — and can be added only to a policy that already includes comprehensive or collision coverage.
