Roadside Assistance

Spanish: Asistencia en Carretera

Definition

Roadside Assistance refers to an optional Texas auto insurance endorsement that pays for common breakdown services such as towing, battery jump-starts, fuel delivery, flat-tire changes, and lockouts. Coverage is typically subject to a per-service dollar limit — often $75 to $150 — or a fixed mileage allowance for tows, such as up to 15 miles to the nearest approved repair facility. Roadside assistance is usually available on both liability-only and full coverage Texas policies, typically adding just a few dollars per month to the premium. It is especially valuable in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex where freeway breakdowns can leave a driver stranded in heavy traffic or during extreme summer heat. Roadside assistance is not the same as rental reimbursement; rental coverage applies only when a vehicle is in a repair shop after a covered claim, not during minor roadside events that do not require repairs.
