Definition

Full Coverage refers to the common shorthand Texas drivers use for an auto policy that combines liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage on a single vehicle. It is not a distinct coverage type itself — rather, it is the industry term used when an insured carries all three core components. Full coverage pays for damage the insured causes to others (liability), damage to the insured's own vehicle in an accident (collision), and non-collision damage such as hail or theft (comprehensive). Lenders and leasing companies almost always require full coverage as a condition of financing. In the Dallas-Fort Worth market, average monthly premiums for full coverage on a clean-record driver typically range from roughly $118 to $168 per month depending on carrier, vehicle, and zip code. Full coverage does not automatically include uninsured motorist, PIP, or roadside assistance — those must be added as separate optional endorsements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Full coverage isn't a single policy type — it's the common term for combining three coverages: liability (damage you cause to others), collision (your own car in a crash), and comprehensive (theft, hail, fire, vandalism). It does not automatically include uninsured motorist, PIP, or roadside assistance — those are optional add-ons.
