Texas Insurance Code §1952.101 (Spanish: Código de Seguros de Texas §1952.101)
Spanish: Código de Seguros de Texas §1952.101 (UM/UIM)
Definition
Texas Insurance Code §1952.101 is the statute that requires every Texas auto insurance carrier to offer Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM) coverage at limits at least equal to the Texas minimum 30/60/25. The driver must reject UM/UIM in writing to opt out — silence is not rejection. The statute exists because Texas has one of the highest uninsured driver rates in the country, estimated 14-20%, making UM/UIM essential consumer protection.
