PIP — Personal Injury Protection (Spanish: PIP / Cobertura Médica)
Spanish: PIP (Cobertura Médica Personal)
Definition
PIP (Personal Injury Protection), called cobertura médica personal or simply PIP in Spanish, is a no-fault coverage that pays medical bills and 80% of lost wages for the insured driver and passengers — regardless of who caused the accident. Under Texas Insurance Code §1952.151, all Texas auto policies must offer at least $2,500 in PIP, and drivers must reject it in writing to opt out. Common limits range from $2,500 to $10,000.
