Non-Owner SR-22 Insurance

Spanish: Seguro SR-22 Sin Auto

Definition

Non-Owner SR-22 Insurance refers to a specialty Texas liability policy that allows a driver who does not own a vehicle to satisfy the state's SR-22 financial responsibility requirement under Texas Transportation Code §601.072. The policy provides the 30/60/25 minimum liability limits required by Texas law and generates the SR-22 filing submitted to the Department of Public Safety. Coverage applies only to vehicles the insured borrows or occasionally rents, and it does not include collision, comprehensive, or coverage for a vehicle the driver owns or regularly uses. Non-owner SR-22 is typically less expensive than an owner's policy because no specific vehicle is rated. This option is common for drivers who need to reinstate a Texas driver's license after a DWI or uninsured accident, but currently rely on borrowed vehicles, public transit, or rideshare while they rebuild their driving record.
