Endorsement

Spanish: Endoso

Definition

An Endorsement refers to a written amendment attached to a Texas auto insurance policy that adds, removes, or changes coverage terms — without requiring an entirely new policy. Common endorsements include adding or removing a vehicle, adding or excluding a driver, raising liability limits, adding roadside assistance or rental reimbursement, attaching an SR-22 filing, or changing the named insured's address. Endorsements can be issued at any point during the policy period and typically take effect either immediately or on a future date the insured specifies. Many endorsements trigger a premium adjustment — either a mid-term additional premium billed to the insured or a pro-rated credit if coverage is reduced. All endorsements are tracked on the policy and must be reviewed at renewal to confirm they carry forward into the next term. Endorsements are interchangeable with the term rider in Texas auto insurance contexts.
