You don't need a US driver's license to get insured in California. A-LA accepts AB 60 licenses, Matrícula Consular, Mexican licenses, DACA EAD cards, and foreign passports — same-day coverage.
California Vehicle Code allows any person to purchase auto insurance regardless of license status. Since 2015, California AB 60 licenses (Vehicle Code 12801.9) have allowed undocumented immigrants to obtain state driver's licenses — but even drivers without an AB 60 license can get insured in California. A-LA Auto Insurance accepts Matrícula Consular, Mexican driver's licenses, foreign passports from any country, DACA Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), ITIN documentation, and AB 60 California licenses. Both liability-only and full coverage are available. There is no credit check. Bilingual agents (English/Spanish) are available by phone at (866) 252-6116. Same-day digital proof of insurance is provided after purchase.
A-LA accepts a wide variety of identification documents — no US license required to get covered in California.
Valid Mexican consular ID issued by the Consulate of Mexico. Accepted as primary identification.
Mexican state-issued driver's licenses from any state are accepted as valid identification.
DACA Employment Authorization Documents accepted as valid federal identification.
Passports from any country — Mexico, Central America, Asia, Europe — all accepted.
IRS Individual Taxpayer Identification Number documentation accepted in lieu of SSN.
California's AB 60 license (Vehicle Code 12801.9) for undocumented residents. Fully accepted.
California's AB 60 law (Assembly Bill 60, signed into law 2013, effective January 1, 2015) amended the California Vehicle Code to allow undocumented immigrants to apply for a standard Class C driver's license through the CA DMV. These licenses are marked "Federal Limits Apply" and are not valid for federal identification purposes — but they are fully valid for driving in California.
To qualify for an AB 60 license, applicants must pass a written knowledge test and a behind-the-wheel driving test, and provide proof of California residency. No Social Security Number is required.
A-LA Auto Insurance fully accepts AB 60 California licenses as valid identification. Whether you have an AB 60 license, a foreign license only, or no license at all, call (866) 252-6116 and our bilingual agents will get you covered same day.
